The SIA (Security Industry Authority) are the regulating body of the security industry, regulating security companies and individuals working in the security industry.
The SIA enforces the Private Security Industry Act 2001 with its’ partners, ensuring compliance of the act for individuals working in a licensable activity, and security companies employing security personnel.
To work in the security industry you will have to undergo SIA Security training and apply for an SIA licence once your application is completed successfully and you have received your SIA badge you will be then hold an SIA licence and ready for work.

When you apply for a front line Door Supervisor licence you must show that you have had the training required of a licensed Door Supervisor operative.
You will need to complete a Door Supervision course and pass the multiple choice tests and Physical Intervention training before you can apply for a front line SIA Door Supervision licence with the SIA.
The SIA Door Supervisor course is divided into 4 units:
This qualification is aimed at Door Supervisors that achieved their qualification prior to June 2010.
You will have to complete the Up Skilling course for an sia licence renewal of your SIA Door Supervision badge.
The qualification has been developed to meet the mandatory SIA refresher training requirement for Door Supervisors.
You will have to complete this course before your Door Supervisors licence expires, or you may have to complete a full SIA Door Supervision Course Level 2.
The qualifications consist of two units:
Unit 1: Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry
Unit 2: Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors within the Private Security Industry
The Level 2 Award CCTV training for Working as a CCTV Operator (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security Industry (QCF) is a qualification for individuals who work or would like to work as a CCTV Operator.
The CCTV course is based on the sia course specification for learning and qualifications for CCTV Control Room Operators (PSS) 2014 and successful completion of the qualification enables learners to apply for an SIA licence for CCTV Operators.
Security operatives are likely in the course of their work to be required to make calls to the emergency services, or need to communicate to resolve conflict. It is essential that security operatives are able to communicate clearly.
The CCTV course will cover all the required learning outcomes to apply for a SIA licence.
The Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry is a qualification for individuals who work or would like to work as a Security Guard.
The security guard training is based on the SIA specification for learning and qualifications in Security Guarding and successful completion of the qualification enables learners to apply for an SIA badge in Security Guarding.
The security course is one of the most popular courses and covers all the requirements set out by the SIA.
Assessment for all 3 units is by externally set and market multiple choice exam.
The Level 3 Award for Working as a Close Protection Operative within the Private Security Industry is a qualification for individuals who work or would like to work as Close Protection Officers.
The close protection course is based on the SIA specification for learning and qualifications for Close Protection Operatives, the close protection course is also known as bodyguard training
Successful completion of the qualification enables learners to apply for an SIA licence in Close Protection.
Assessment for unit 1 and 2 is by a) an externally set and marked multiple choice question paper b) an externally set and internally marked question paper and c) Practical tasks/assignment
The Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Professional Private Investigation /private investigator training is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding required to become a professional private investigator.
It develops their understanding of the wider sector including the role of the Private Investigator, process serving, investigation assignments and methodologies, criminal investigations & the law and an introduction to starting a private investigation business.
